Booksmith. Here is
amazon.com's biggest competitor! We understand that you can browse and purchase from a
stock of over 1.2 million book titles in every possible category. Make your purchases
online and you can expect to receive your book usually within 72 hours.
MysteryNet.Com. Since there are now
nearly 40 mystery novels having been recorded as having philatelic themes in the
plots---and since philatelists are usually congenital readers as well as collectors---here
is an absolutely fantastic site to visit. This site posts new
mysteries every week and visitors have the chance to actually solve them
online! Wowser!
PromoMart. We found this to be the perfect place to find all sorts of imprinted merchandise perfect for the stamp dealer...or stamp club that is staging a stamp show. Everything from keychains and rubber ducks to watches and award merchandise---all imprintable with your own logo or name.
New York City Travel Site. Since many collectors either live in, or will visit, New York for one of their big stamp shows from time to time, here is the site that'll tell you everything you need to know about the Big Apple. This includes listings of some of the most unusual and interesting retail shops you can imagine...plus restaurants, hotels, etc., etc.
Computer/Software Auctions. Now here is a novel concept. OnSale is the place for the computer user to find honest-to-goodness bargains in every conceivable kind of computer hard and software and do it on an online auction format. It's highly possible that you may become "hooked" to this site.
Fairs & Festivals. We stamp collectors are confirmed showgoers. We love everything from a local bourse to a chili cookoff...to a World's Fair. Complete with a searchable database, festivals.com is THE place to find such events all over the world...not just the U.S.

If you've spent enough time on the Web you know that there are lots of free stuff you can obtain---everything from news, weather and sports, to tons of tangible free samples and doodads. For a great news source, try NEWS ONLINE. And our favorite site for linking up to lots of freebies is FREE-N-COOL.
Valise. There's a lot of live wire discussion these days about free e-mail services. Here's one that's almost free! You simply pay a one-time charge of $20 and you're signed up for life. Is it worth it? See for yourself.
The Old Farmers Almanac. It's not hard to believe that this handy yearly book appears on the philatelic library shelves of many a stamp collector. Now 205 years old (huh?), The Old Farmers Almanac continues to be a terrific little reference tool for lots of things.
CultureFinder. Many stamp collectors are quite knowledgeable fans of the arts. we even know several thematic collectors who pursue music, opera and dance on stamps who absolutely love this site. It's a beautiful place.
Bad Websites. Today there are over 1,000 philatelic sites on the Web. Wow. It's not surprising, though, that lots of 'em could learn from other sites how to and how-not-to do a site. Maybe someday we'll assemble a list of the truly great philatelic sites on the web. Meanwhile, here is a site that, though not philatelic, takes you to places that you'd perhaps not like to be.
Cinemania. What stamp collector is not also a movie fan---especially since so many flicks have featured stamps and stamp collectors (Topaz is a great one!). This is the essential site for the movie buff. What do you wanna know? It's there.
DejaNews If you're a Usenet nut, this is the place you've been waiting for! Nothing short of the best international Newsgroup directory on the Web. Think of a subject that you like, then search for the newsgroup devoted to it. It'll take you there where you can sign on and participate at will. Lots of friendly button click-thru's that make everything easy.
PCTV If you're a fan of Stewart Cheifet's Computer Chronicles on public television or watch the great computer shows on cable TV's Knowledge Television, this is the site that contains all the stuff you'll see on these groundbreaking television shows.
CatalogSite Most stamp collectors are catalog shoppers. We love to buy things through the mail. Well, now you can go to a site and order---mostly free of charge---the latest editions of practically every catalog imaginable. We ordered one from Surplus Direct, the largest cut-rate computer soft/hardware sales outlet on the Web.
CarTalk Like many auto freaks, we love to listen to Tom and Ray Magliozzi's weekly CarTalk program on National Public Radio. These guys are downright crazy! We hobbyists generally enjoy looking into other hobbies. How 'bout the #1 place for car bugs?
GeoCities If you're interested in putting up your own website here is the place to help you do it...and it can even be totally free. Not only that, but you can find out about all sorts of places to travel and even book reservations. A very friendly community!
Jack The Ripper Most of us philatelists love history, of course. We also love mysteries. Well, here is the site all about the greatest mystery of them all. The Jack The Ripper Casebook will take you back to the autumn of 1888 and provide you with an evening's worth of clues, actual photographs, and even books on the famed murders you can order online.

Popular Mechanics Perhaps one of the five or six largest U.S.-based websites, here is the site presented by the people whose ads turned many of onto stamp collecting years ago.
Electronic Journals The world of electronic magazine is growing by leaps on the World Wide Web. Use this site to compare our e-zine with many of the others. We think we come out pretty darned good!

The New York Public Library Though these folks aren't too up to snuff on displaying to the public their incredible philatelic holdings---including the fabulous Miller collection of early U.S.---their resources come close to matching, and even bettering, the Library of Congress.
The National Archives Whatever is part of America's past, it's stored here...from a part of JFK's skull to the storehouse of data available at all, but one, of the presidential libraries. (Nixon didn't want the NA to have any part of his Whittier, Calif., library.)
